SFMOMA Announces Six New Members to Its Board of Trustees
Appointments Continue SFMOMA’s Commitment to Diversifying Its Board with Individuals of Varying Expertise, Backgrounds and Viewpoints
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 21, 2024)-The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) today announced the recent appointment of six new members to its board of trustees. They include Douglas Durkin, Evans Hankey, Jessica Moment, James Park, Stephanie Robinson and Keiko Sakamoto. The group represents a depth of expertise and experience, bringing important new perspectives and engagement to the stewardship of the museum. SFMOMA is committed to ensuring that the board of trustees includes individuals of varied backgrounds and perspectives, as it enacts its dynamic audience-centered vision and prioritizes the financial health of the institution.

Douglas Durkin has more than 35 years of experience as a designer and established the acclaimed firm Douglas Durkin Design in San Francisco in 2002. He began his career in New York City, holding positions with prominent design firms such as Ellen Lehman McCluskey and Robert Metzger. He relocated to San Francisco in 1989. Prior to launching his firm, he served as a design principal with Wiseman Group. He holds a degree from Cornell University.
Durkin is one of the founders of FOG Design+Art, and currently serves on the FOG Steering Committee and is the chair of FOG Forum. He has also been an SFMOMA member since 1996 and has held multiple leadership positions at the museum. He served as chair of Architecture + Design Accessions at SFMOMA for seven years, as well as chair of the Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF & E) Oversight Committee for the Snøhetta expansion.
Evans Hankey recently served as Apple’s vice president of industrial design from 2018 through 2023. She worked at Apple for 23 years and was the first woman to head Apple’s industrial design team. With over 300 patents to her name, Evans was instrumental in the development of products including iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, AirPods, HomePod and Vision Pro. With a deep understanding of materials and processes and a passion for collaboration across disciplines, Evans delights in every stage of the design process, from early ideas to the everyday experience of the final product.
Evans graduated from Stanford University with a degree in product design. She is new to SFMOMA board positions and leadership, bringing fresh insight to the museum.
Jessica Moment is a San Francisco–based philanthropist. She serves as a trustee for Common Sense Media and the San Francisco Day School, where she co-chaired the This Is Our Day Campaign. From 2008 through 2013, she co-founded Philanthropist, a designer boutique in Presidio Heights, where she donated all profits to San Francisco charities. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
At SFMOMA, Moment joined the Director’s Circle in 2013, Contemporaries in 2018 and Collectors’ Forum in 2023. She co-chaired Art Bash in 2019 and has been an active volunteer leader on the Contemporaries Committee. She currently continues as co-chair of Curators’ Circle Committee.
James Park is a technology entrepreneur. He most recently served as vice president and general manager of Fitbit / Health and Wearables at Google from February 2021 through April 2024. He co-founded Fitbit in 2007 as its CEO, took the company public on the NYSE in 2015 and remained CEO until its acquisition by Google in 2021. Park also serves on the board of Kraft Heinz.
Park is an active art collector. In 2020, he started collecting art focusing on light, space and women Surrealists. He serves on the Acquisitions Committee at MOCA LA and in 2023, Park joined SFMOMA’s Director’s Circle and Collectors’ Forum.
Stephanie Robinson is a strategic and financial advisor. She also serves as chair of the MarinHealth Foundation Board of Trustees, as trustee for the Meridian International Center in Washington, D.C., and on the Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by President Biden. She co-founded the Robinson International Scholars Program and the Robinson Life Science, Business and Entrepreneurship Program at the University of California, Berkeley. Robinson holds a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
She and her husband, Mark Robinson, joined SFMOMA’s Director’s Circle in 2019 and Collectors’ Forum in 2021. She is currently the co-chair of Collectors’ Forum and serves on the Development Committee and Painting & Sculpture Accessions Committee.
Keiko Sakamoto is a San Francisco–based philanthropist and retired attorney. She collects contemporary art in a range of media including paintings, sculpture, ceramics and photography. Splitting her time between San Francisco and Laguna Beach, she also serves as a trustee of the Orange County Museum of Art and is engaged in community organizations involving unhoused people, education, animal rescue, women’s rights, and the arts. Sakamoto received a B.A. in history from Harvard College, a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and attended the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Law.
Sakamoto and her husband, Bill Witte, joined SFMOMA’s Curators’ Circle in 2017 and Director’s Circle in 2020.
